Build a Healthcare Continuity Plan Before Moving to Morocco
A practical framework for medications, records, insurance, routine care, specialists and emergencies before an international retirement move.

A policy can be valid while the nearest suitable provider remains inconvenient, requires payment upfront or falls outside direct billing. Map routine care, urgent care, diagnostics and specialist needs separately. Then confirm how the insurer handles each setting, including authorization, exclusions, deductibles and reimbursement evidence.
Create a portable medical file
Prepare a concise health summary, current medication list using generic names, relevant test results, allergies and clinician contacts. Keep encrypted digital copies and a small paper packet for travel. Ask current clinicians what monitoring schedule should continue and which changes would require prompt review.
Verify medication continuity
Availability, brand names, strengths and prescription practices can differ. Check each recurring medicine with a qualified Moroccan pharmacist or physician before moving and identify a clinically appropriate alternative pathway. Avoid carrying quantities or controlled medicines without checking current customs and documentation rules.
Plan the difficult day
Write down who to call, where to go, how to pay and who can communicate on your behalf during an emergency. Include transport, a backup hospital, insurer assistance, medical evacuation terms and a return-to-U.S. option. Rehearse the plan after choosing a neighborhood.
Sources and verification
Open the current source before acting; official rules and provider terms can change.
